In an attempt to build a bridge between furlough time and a call back or a new job, I have contacted a flight school in Winter Haven and have gotten the ball rolling on maybe getting a job when the time comes. I used to instruct out of Winter Haven airport. However, the specific school I worked for was very shadily operated and eventually went out the business. In fact, I received a call from one of my students while I was in training at the airline and he told me he went out to the airport and looked in the window and all was packed up and gone. This was like a week after I left.

Anyway, this airline gig has been a hell of a ride. But, considering I only instructed for 4-5 months, when my original plan going into it was to put in at least a year, I feel like I am sort of going back to my roots again. Even though the school I would work for is technically another school entirely, it is based at the same airport. One of their airplanes (N66068) used to be one I instructed in for the other school. So, perhaps I’ll be back in the ole girl before long.

I’ve made a tentative appointment to meet up with the owner of the school when I get back from this 4 day trip. The plan is Aug 12th. I don’t expect a position to be open now, nor would I take it if there was. The purpose of the meeting is to shake hands, build a friendship, tell some lies, etc to sort of build a foundation. My hope is that upon getting the furlough, I can contact him and tell him I am ready to go. Then when a position opens, I hope to be next in line to snag it up.

Then, its on to my CPA while I instruct on the side. The only missing link is when my wife is going to get that big raise we keep hoping for.
