I was looking forward to 3 days off this time. However, Fay has decided to mess that up for me. I’ve been watching this storm for the last two days hoping it would veer off or slow down. However, now its down to crunch time. I have got to make a decision on how to play this next commute. Considering the ground track and the speed of closure, combined with my current amount of sick time, and the recency of my last sick call, I have decided to head up tonight. 24 hours early!!! So instead of spending tonight with my wife at my house, having most of the day tomorrow at home, I get to sit at the crash pad tomorrow ALL DAY!

I imagine that it is assumed that as a professional, I will do everything in my power to make sure that I am in position at the right time. I could call up the chief pilot and tell him the situation and maybe get off the hook, but is it really worth that? And no matter what, I will be losing about $250 bucks if I don’t go.

So considering the situation, I have made the decision to leave tonight instead of tomorrow morning. In retro, will this be the best decision? There is no way to tell. I will look tomorrow at whether the morning flights scheduled for tomorrow morning actually fly. If so, in 20/20 hindsight, I could have stayed tonight at home. But I don’t have the luxury of knowing what the future holds, so this seems like the “failsafe” plan.

Got to love commuting!!
