I am just a pilot. I am simple guy with simple thoughts (well not really, but it sounds good). But I couldn’t help but post something about this country’s political situation.
I can’t help but notice how content deprived so many of these politicians are. This “hope and change” thing that Obama is on is so empty, yet people cheer and scream about it. It sounds good, I’ll give him that. Obama is going to fix it all, make it all good, and make shit smell nice. Hell, with the recent hurricanes forming in the Atlantic, I’m all for them snatching up Obama, flying him to the center of Gustav and dropping him into the eye of the storm. Problem solved!
I have been watching tidbits of the Democratic National Convention. I am having to fight from throwing things around the room. It isn’t that I disagree with what the speakers are saying (some of it, I do), but rather I ask myself the question, “What has happened to personal responsibility?”. The main sales pitch of the democratic party seems to be something to the effect of, “I’ll take care of you”. I mean, really? I thought this country was founded on the premise that YOU can do it if YOU want to. I will say that again, YOU can do it if YOU want to. With that in mind: here are a few snippets from Hilliary’s speech at the 2008 DNC:
“I will always remember the single mom who had adopted two kids with autism, she didn’t have any health insurance, and she discovered she had cancer. She greeted me with her bald head with my name painted on it and asked me to fight for health care for her and her children”.
First off, if you don’t have health insurance, why are you adopting autistic kid’s? But that is not even the point.
“….the young man in a Marine t-shirt who waited months for medical care…..will you please take care of me…”
“…the young boy who’s mom worked for minimum wage…employer cut hours……what are we going to do”
Again, the thought is great. I hate to see anyone face down in a ditch and walk right past them. I am not that guy. But it just doesn’t seem the job of a president to make health care available to people who cannot otherwise afford it. That seems to be a job that should remain in the non-profit charity realm. And furthermore, the ignorant public seems to have forgotten that the president is basically a figurehead. The power of the government still lies almost entirely with congress. These quoted people (who may or may not even exist at all) pleading that Hillary repair their woes haven’t a clue how the United States government is even assembled. They just want their problems solved because apparently they haven’t had the horsepower within themselves to make it go right. Then those who DO make it go right are ridiculed and covertly labeled as selfish and consumptive.
Look at this ad:
John McCain is a decorated war hero who graduated from a top Military Academy and served a career in the Senate and just received the Republican nomination for President of the United States of America. To the other lady in the video: WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? This video keeps bouncing back and forth between some lady and John McCain. Are the two really equal? Is McCain a horrible person, and thus president, because he supposedly owns 7 houses? Sounds like he’s done well. I’ll shake his hand.
Solution: John McCain should sell all his stuff.
I have two vehicles all to myself! MINE! TWO of them! And I fly multi million dollar airplanes around for a living burning thousands of gallons of fuel in my wake. I burn about a Hummer’s weight of fuel every hour for a living. What about the poor kid who brings home minimum wage making $5 footlongs all day? What about him?
Solution: I must be EVIL!!
Since when did life come with a guarantee? Only the tigers survive. This country houses some of the greatest minds that have ever lived and also some of the laziest pussies that ever lived. The existence of so many whiners who suck off a system supported by those who actually carry their own weight (plus some obviously) is perpetuated by these politicians’ words. Their goal is to get elected and they know that the only chance they have is to get the lesser achievers in society to buy into a empty promise that all will be sunshine and rainbows if Obama is elected. Hope and Change, baby!!! Hope and Change! No need for any content. Obama hasn’t given a single plan (at least that I’ve seen) that consists of a step by step layout to achieve his claims. Hell, I’d love world peace too. And it should be and probably is attainable. But how? Hope isn’t enough. Its the first step, but there are many blank lines after that.
His supporters don’t care to hear the plan. His Harvard degree must mean he knows how to do it. Plus, he is a good speaker, and decently attractive. GO OBAMA! Fix it all for me, you knowledgeable hunk!!
I understand being born into a hole that is deeper than others’. Do not think that I am a selfish prick who has no concept how blessed I am. I get it. Help should be extended. And it is extended by and large. There is a multitude of non-profit charities in this country receiving donations from those who have and through which those donations are extended to those who don’t. Soup kitchens around the country feed many homeless mouths. And even government should have “some” limited place in this endeavor. But, even with our screwed up health care system, those without health insurance do get treated for free in the emergency room. They walk away all fixed, but who paid for it? Just because THEY didn’t pay doesn’t mean it didn’t cost money to repair their dents. Those who do have insurance paid the damn bills.
I used to be involved in insurance collections. I worked at an agency for about 8 months while I was climbing the latter. These hospitals would routinely collect 10-20% of the incurred charges before writing off the rest. If you knew this was going to happen in a situation of selling your car, say, wouldn’t you charge $40,000 if you truly only wanted $4,000? But the ramifications of this debacle is beyond the scope of this post.
In closing, life doesn’t come with a guarantee. Regardless of what Obama or Hillary say during their personal quest for the White House, this world is supported on the shoulders of less people than you think. If you want to make something of yourself and own 7 houses, it is going to require good old fashioned hard work and study. This country was founded on this premise, yet it seems to have slowly slipped closer towards an equal distribution of wealth. Those who are wealthy are to be looked at disdainfully, and the poor ol’ couple sitting on their house step holding the foreclosure notice should be the focus of the government’s efforts. Personal responsibility. If one wants to keep the foreclosure notice out of the mailbox, they are just gonna have to make more money or live off of less. It is going to require more WORK, not Obama’s promised handouts. Not everyone out there is merely a victim of W’s bad economy.
If I quit my job, I’d get a foreclosure notice too. And in the airline industry, I don’t know what is happening with my job next month. But I rest well at night knowing that I will figure out a way to make it all work.
The magic of it is that I think help is out there should one legitimately need it.
