With 2008 wrapped up, its time for a new chapter in my life. 2008 was all about flying. Certainly at the onset I believed things would go differently during the year than they turned out. However, life throws lemons from time to time and its up to me to make lemonade. As such, I have changed course for a little while, if not forever. We’ll see. But certainly for now.
During 2008, I logged 803 hours of flight time. That is approximately 2.2 hours of flying for every single day of the year. Those hours are the main accomplishment for the year. I walked away from the company in good standing and have more opportunities now than I had when I started. By that token, it was a huge success.
2009 is going to be a different animal. Like 2008, its going to open more doors to me, but doors on the other side of the room. School begins in 4 days and I am ready to start! I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and I’ve been ready to end the thinking and begin the action now for nearly as long. I’ve waited patiently for the time to come and it is now upon me.
My goals for 2009:
1. Accomplish the vast majority of the CPA. I do not believe that I can completely finish it during 2009. However, all academic requirements will be completed and at least 2 of the 4 parts to the test should be taken and hopefully passed. Likely in early 2010, I will be taking the last couple parts and wrapping up the whole cycle.
2. Stay as involved in aviation as I possibly can. Something drove me to go down the path I went down during the last two years and I cannot shelf that ambition. Even though, for this year, most of my attention will be directed towards this CPA, I am going to channel 10-20% of my attention towards maintaining and building my current status as a professional pilot. This involves networking, shaking hands, learning new things, FLYING, teaching, etc.
3. Music. I hope to keep music in my life and work everyday towards bettering my ability in this field. This is strictly for the fun of it.
4. Marathon in 2010. My cousin Matt was an inspiration to me. If he can do an Ironman, I can run a freakin’ marathon after 12 months of training. Therefore, I hope to run the Disney marathon in early 2010 and to train for it during 2009.
Those are my primary goals for 2009 in order of priority.
The clock is ticking. Lets see what I can do……
